How To Start A Valedictorian Speech

Improved Essays
Thank you, President Raab, for that warm welcome, and thank you to my parents for working tirelessly to ensure I had a brighter future, my friends for always being there and supporting me despite my constant sarcasm, and Durim, for being an inspiration for this speech. As I prepared to write this speech, there were so many questions swimming around in my mind. Aside from “how do I even start a valedictorian speech?” one question really kept coming back to me—what made Hunter so great? That question has so many answers; I could spend the entire night telling you all about them, but I’m sure no one wants to be here that long. But if I was to be asked that question right now, the first thing that would come to mind is unity. If you were to look out at this …show more content…
All of us have proven that by making it here today, despite the countless adversities we’ve faced. My own four years here at Hunter has shown me that through collective effort, we all gain individually, though it’s not always clear at first. A situation I recently faced highlighted the importance of relying on one another. It was the day before a research conference, and I still hadn’t printed my poster, as I was waiting for input. I’m sure we’ve all had similar experiences when it comes to working with others; it’s the night before the presentation, and your group is haphazardly putting pieces of your project together, hoping the professor won’t notice it was done the night before. In my case, though at first I didn’t appreciate working with others, I realized afterwards that without the input of my peers, I likely would not have even made it to the conference. Incidentally, through our collective work, I also became a stronger speaker and didn’t feel so nervous in front of large crowds, although right now, I could say otherwise. To put everything simply, all of us are pieces of a greater whole, almost like parts of a car. From what I’ve seen at my time here, each and every one

In this story, I was at my best when I was working with others towards a common goal. Last January, my Boy Scout Troop partook in the Hopewell Klondike Derby. Our troop constructed a sled for the competition and prepared everything we needed in a long black box. In this derby each team is challenged to pull their sled along a course to several stations in which our boy scout skills are tested. Our team did fairly well at quite a lot of the stations, while we struggled on others.…

For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

The absolute contrast in temperament, class, and intellectualism between this man and the incoming administration is so wide that it only furthers the notion that Donald Trump is unqualified to serve as president; not to mention the absolute laundry list of abominations that are his cabinet selections. All I can say is thank you Mr. President, and may God help us these next four years.…

A week had gone by. Two weeks, then three. Finally a month had gone by and we were ready to turn in our finished video. It was the largest video project the five of us had undertaken and it had taken us the better part of four weeks to finish, but we finally crossed the finish line with a lengthy five minute short film. This is the feeling I had after finally finishing the short film that a small group of five of us were tasked with creating.…

Fostering a sense of community with shared values will enable the group to function with a higher level of cohesion.. Continually “priming” the members by reinforcing their shared characteristics strengthens the sense of oneness (Swann et al 2014, p. 925). “[T]he perception of shared core characteristics fosters perceptions of familial ties to other group members, which, in turn, embolden endorsement of self-sacrifice” (Swann et al 2014, p. 925). As the team feels increasingly responsible to each other for optimum performance, the more sacrifice each member is willing to make to attain the expected level of…

Through my experiences, I have learned that working together takes effort. When thinking about my high school career and the idea of teamwork, one specific instance comes to mind, homecoming 2017. I, along with my close friends, decided to run my best friend for homecoming king. Senior year would be our final time to make a lasting impact on our school, and we thought the best way was to go big, and win the coveted crown of homecoming king. The idea was originally thrown out as a joke, “Let’s use this event as a means to make wacky posters and produce a funny video and have a good time” we all thought.…

The biggest takeaway I have from our class time is the importance of interpersonal relationships in the workplace and how crucial dealing with people as more than just robotic workers really affects both work effort and efficacy. I have always been taught the importance of encouraging your workers, keeping an open environment, and analyzing team dynamics critically, but the class helped cement that both with examples and with actual situations that occurred in my groups. I’d be hard pressed to say everything ran smoothly with all the assignment we were given in class. In fact, there were times where we were down to the wire to complete things on time and correctly. The biggest issues with these assignments weren’t difficulty however, it was…

Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” Working as a team ensures that everyone is successful, a pro that individuality doesn’t provide. Collaborative work is the best option for schools and businesses because it provides, learning, creativity, and teamwork skills. However, some believe that a great individual is better than a great team. Some fear that a few workers and students will lack personal responsibility, while getting credit for work they didn’t do.…

Xxxxc Good evening everyone. When we look at all the measures of well-being in the world, if we had a choice of when to be born (August 4th in the 60 's) and we didn 't know ahead of time who we were going to be (the President of the United States of America) what nationality (Afghan and American) what family (His Holiness and the Mayor of the Angel 's Land) whether we were male or female (me and Michelle) what religion (Muslim and Christian) without any question, the time would be now. And no, no doubt about it either. The world has never been healthier, the world has never been wealthier, the world has never been better educated, the world has never been less violent and more tolerant than it is today. Did I mention beautiful?…

Apparently, the interactive nature of a knowledgebased society and a knowledge-based economy mandates the ability to collaborate. “Those who have successfully created cultures of innovation and creativity suggest that one key is to… embrace participation, collaboration, networking…” Collaboration and teamwork is such a key element to many aspects of life - it appears everywhere, and this skill comes in handy later in life in many situations, maybe even tomorrow. It took me a slight bit of willingness to give collaboration and teamwork a shot and understand what is behind it, it’s not just wanted or unwanted socialization, like I thought before, it might be the key to building a business empire, for all I can know. In the modern age, when a lot of the things are already invented, it’s hard to come up with something new on your own. It’s the innovation that rarely takes place in just one head.…
