Kids these days always have some sort of technology around with them, everywhere they go. As a result, parents have wondered what would happen if the technology was taken away from their children. Parents worked together with their schools and made a national week called, “Shut Down Your Screen Week”, where students are to quit using technology for a week. Some people may say that screen time is beneficial to kids as they are “bringing children closer than ever [because] [...] technology allows them to be connected to their friends around the clock” (Stout 5). Being on a device all the time may help students build bonds with one another. Since they have the capability to text their friends whenever and for whatever reason this makes makes friendships stronger. As a result of always looking at text messages and not an actual face, “today’s youths may be missing out on experiences that help them develop empathy, understand emotional nuances and read social cues like facial expressions and body language” (Stout 5). When they will encounter situations in life where they need to understand an actual person, not through a device, they will not be ready, and it will impact them negatively. Talking to an actual person leaves a much better experience rather than talking to a person through technology.
Children always have their eyes glued to their screens, unbridled with the time that is spent on them, and with this comes both benefits and disadvantages. When looking at the evidence between the advantages and disadvantages, there are clearly more disadvantages because research shows that kids are less focused on their schoolwork since they always have their minds in the digital world and they don’t have enough personal interactions for a meaningful life. All relationships are purposeful, and if children are always on technology, they will not get to make necessary relationships necessary through
