How To Ride A Dirt Bike

Improved Essays
The day after my 13th birthday was one of the most exciting, yet frustrating, day of my life. My parents gave me a dirt bike. Every fiber in my body wanted to jump on and ride all day long. I quickly donned my helmet. My dad stood next to me in the driveway coaching me on how to use the clutch, throttle, shift gears, and all of the other things that I needed to know so I would not crash. My mom stood nervously off to the side. I quickly realized that I probably was not going to do much riding that day, as I kept stalling the bike. I only managed to go a few feet with each attempt. After hours of failed attempts, I had only managed to make one successful start and lap the driveway once, only to stall the bike again when I came to a stop. With countless failed attempts and only one mild success I decided to quit for the day. For the next week, I never tried to ride my new dirt bike. Instead, I spent every free moment I had researching, watching tutorials, and practicing the hand movements and timing between the clutch and throttle. Once I had absorbed all the information I possibly could about the “theory” of using the clutch and throttle, it was time to put my new found knowledge to use and actually get on my bike to try again.

Failure was not an option. I wanted it with every fiber of my being and I was not going to let anything stop me. I feel the same way about my education and wanting to become an engineer. I have had my fair share of hurdles in my education, but I have overcome every single one I have faced so far. Failure may knock you down, but as long as you get up, better yourself, and try again it is always a victory. When failure is something you accept, it only goes to show that you did not want it bad enough. We only fail when we do not get up and try again and again, through hard work until we get what we

During my junior year I experienced failure. I had taken 3 AP classes and I was in cheer at my high school, and trying to figure out a balance between the two was difficult for me because it seemed like cheer took up a lot of my time and in the past other two years it had, but I had managed to still do well in my honors and AP classes. My junior year was another story, I struggled a lot at the beginning of the school year, and most of first semester was spent with me having an F sometimes more than one, and that was a failure to me because I had my heart set on going to a four college or university and I knew that if i had an F i wouldnt qualify.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

My family has always been a sports family. Ever since I can remember the entirety of my life outside of school has revolved around sports. For my dad it was soccer, a sport which I played and enjoyed but unlike my parents, when they were younger, I had a burning desire to play hockey. Hours of running wildly around my house dressed in goalie equipment, finally convinced my parents to sign their 5 year old up for timbits hockey. I enjoyed playing the game for many years to follow, and still do to this day, but there came a point where I was not getting what I wanted out of playing hockey competitively.…

Everyone has a different perspective and interpretation about failure. Some people see failure as an unpleasant thing or a limitation of their capabilities, while others see failure as a learning opportunity or a guide on how to become better. For example, in the article, “Want to Get Into College? Learn to Fail,” the author, Angel B. Perez, implies that failure should not be feared because it is not as harmful as most people think it is. He points out that failure is necessary if we want to succeed in college and in life.…
