How To Read Books In Rot & Ruin

Decent Essays
1) Throughout the school year I believe that I wasn't as successful as I could have been in reading and reviewing a lot of books because I didn't read at home. Although this requirement did push me to find books that after reading I enjoyed alot. For example if it wasn't for the requirement to read I wouldn't have read one of my new favorite book series Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry.
I recently finished the second book in the Rot & Ruin series called Dust & Decay. I enjoyed reading this book a lot, a few times throughout the book I was nearly brought to tears because it was so impacting and emotional. Next year I plan to read the rest of the books in the Rot & Ruin series and I might have to check out a few other books by Jonathan Maberry.

Unlike the literature I am required to read during the school year, the books that I read for pleasure are more focused on issues that can relate to one's actual life. The books I read for pleasure are more of a release. For example, I read "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel to get a better view on the idea of intangible belief and dry factuality. I enjoyed "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury because it provided a new perspective on the idea of censorship. I also read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Of Mice and Men" in order to receive valuable insight on the idea of loss of innocence.…

I've read the Ender's Game series, from Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and the Children of the Mind. I've also read One Second After, Rendezvous with Rama, The Blood of Olympus, New Earth, Inferno, and Robinson Crusoe. Of the books that made the most impact, Speaker of the dead left the most dent because it talks more about how we must take care of each other than brandishing our accomplishments.…

Having been homeschooled for the first twelve years of my life, I had a rather untraditional childhood. While my friends were required to go to school from 6:20 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon, I was at home studying or on a field trip to some relevant lecture, the library, or a museum. Because of this less rigid environment, I usually had a lot of time available to me in addition to my school time. Using this excess time for my own personal interests, I developed a penchant for reading at an early age.…

Over the course of this year I read eight books and each and every one of them have taught me a different story or way of life. Two of my favorite novels were The Rag and Bone Shop, by Robert Cormier and The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls. The Rag and Bone Shop taught me how much one person can manipulate you and that the way people talk to you can affect your perception of the actual situation. In the novel, the young boy Jason’s friend Alicia gets murdered. Trent, the detective on the case questions and interrogates Jason, accusing him that he was the murderer.…

All the reading assignments were intriguing, and I thought critically because of the questions that were asked. An example of this comes from the last homework assignment where we read The Sports Taboo by Malcolm Gladwell. “Gladwell kept his eye on this runner because he thought that there was no way that this person would…

Personal Literacy Statement for Shannon Brasher While I don’t remember learning to read as a child, I do remember being forced to read books that I had no interest in. Not only was this not enjoyable as I was not interested in the book, often times they were considered old classics like Shakespeare which were hard for me to comprehend what I was reading. This lead not only to frustration but I would quit reading the book which caused me to miss out on whatever the teacher was trying to teach. As a teacher I would strive to promote a love of reading in my students by allowing them to choose what they read from a selection of books.…

My Story: A True Tale of Reading in Delotell’s Class Out of all the books I've read this year I've only found one that I truly liked. Don't get me wrong choice reading is still better than having to read a book that a teacher assigned. It always felt as if I chose wrong or I couldn't remember what was happening in my book because we had the class book along with our personal book.…

I had troubles in my early educational career. during elementary school, I was in a special reading class called Title I. Ironically, though I wasn’t immediately taken with reading, I became an avid reader after those first few difficult years. I was a regular at my elementary school’s small library, and I competed in everything book-related that I could. Battle of the books, spelling bees, and English classes were my favorite pastimes in grade school. Other children dreaded completing summer reading and literature studies, but I looked at reading…

When I Learned to Read and Write. I first started reading and writing in preschool, my teacher was very helpful and did everything she could do to help me achieve goals, and become who I am today. When I was younger I would pretend that I could read and I would read to all of my toys. In preschool, my teacher saw me trying to read so she came over to me and started to help me sound out the words and form the sentences so that I could read. The first book I read was Dr.Seuss’ “Green, Eggs and Ham.”…

Writing Experience With my writing experiences I have managed to read a lot of books. My favorite book was so awkward to read for me at first and I hated the fact my teacher assigned the book to the class to read, yet little did I know that it would turn out to one of my favorite books. My honors English IV teacher one day said that she would love to read a book for the class and that we would love the book and not want to put it down or we would hate the book with a burning passion.…

In seventh grade, my reading experience went farther downhill. The teacher expected us to do projects reflecting over what we had read every time we finished a book, with a minimum of five per trimester. I hated doing these reflection projects, so my quantity of reading fell further to just five books every three months. However, the final nail in the coffin of my reading came in eighth grade. On the first day of school, the teacher informed us that the only genre we would be allowed to read for out reading logs, which were unnecessarily complicated, was nonfiction.…
