“People don 't realize how a man 's whole life can be changed by one book” (Malcolm X). Books are beneficial in an individual’s vocabulary, memorization, and perspectives in life. In “On Being 17, Bright, and Unable to Read” by David Raymond, Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez, and “My Alma Mater” from The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X, all the authors struggled with something particular in literacy, but they all had different motives for improving their reading and writing. As seen in the three articles, each author had their own purpose in why literacy can be a good advantage and figured out different strategies to help ameliorate themselves. If you have obstacles which prevent you from reading or writing effectively, finding…

As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” . Education is the key to fixing human inequality, reducing poverty, shaping the world for the better, and stopping us from being extinct. Education is like an investment and it is the most critical investments we can make in our lives. The only person who can control how educated they want to be, is them themselves. As children, we are taught that the ability to read is important and are even required to have a period of silent sustained reading. There is an implication that reading is always literary, however, there isn’t one specific subject that is tied to reading. I’ve read history books, books about animals, encyclopedias, anything to just read. Not only did it deepen my passion for books, it helped me develop my writing skills. I gained knowledge from the books that I read which evolved into writing my own stories.…

4-H, I learned responsibility not only for myself but to accomplish the task at hand, e.g. taking care, washing, cleaning pens/stalls for the animals at the fair. I may sound a bit redundant, but like in the FFA you will make the constant of friends and competition, and this friendly competition is what makes it fun to be in organizations like 4-H. I am currently the Secretary of the Rural Raiders 4-H club in Foster County, and I am expected to help record membership, attendance, and the meetings for my club. This last experience was an extension to responsibility, and responsibility is a lesson that nobody will not get enough of whether it is direct or implied. Some of todays kids do not know responsibility because they do not have the agriculture…

I believe the reason for this travesty is because reading is not properly promoted in the household or at schools. In addition, the destruction of libraries, book burnings, and the enforcement of books as academic discipline has made reading inaccessible and often a burden. My program will incorporate grammar, classical language, etymology, poetry, world and historical literature, literary theories, and creative writing. Classical Language will allow readers to see the different varieties of modern English and how classical written language has developed overtime. Grammar and Etymology will not only help the readers learn how to properly construct a sentence, but readers can also study the origin of certain words and the way in which their meanings has changed throughout history.…
