As said by the three-time Olympic champion, Gail Devers, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can’t stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn’t think we could be that strong.” In the non-fiction book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini’s unrelenting strength in the face of unimaginable horrors emulates the words spoken by Devers. Despite being subjected to constant torture and starvation in a Japanese POW camp for two years, Louis remained resilient.…

An example of how theory informed practice in my field placement as a case manager intern is when I encountered a patient that had be discharged to a nursing home facility. The client wanted to be discharged home, where he lives alone, rather than to a nursing home, where he will be safe from falling. I decided to use the family centered practice approach to help the patient feel more at ease and be provided with his daughter’s support. According to Lietz, family centered practice is a strength-based approach that focuses on the strengths within the family to provide them with a proper intervention that will uniquely work for them (2011). Also, as a form of respect, social workers should be aware of the client’s cultural differences when introducing…

1.My goal is to improve my muscular strength so I will hit 10 homeruns over the fence this softball season. I will do this by doing anaerobic exercises and lifting weights, I will practice on my batting trainers, and by doing core stability training. 2.Last season with my first travel softball team I hit 3 homeruns over the fence (March 15th - August 21st). On the school softball team I hit 5 homeruns over the fence (Late March - Early May) because it was an easier team with easier pitchers and the people in the field didn’t have much practice. Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…
