Firstly, in document A it stated there is “3,989 people sick out of the 8,000” who were there. Therefore, there is about 50% of soldiers sick and in the Winter it is common to be sick especially in those conditions. Secondly there were only “1,800 out of the 12,000 men died at Valley Forge”(doc A). What this is saying is that there is only a 15% chance of dying and a 85% chance of living which that is pretty good odds. In document D it said that “the summer soldier and the sunshine Patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and women.” This evidence is saying to us that a summer soldier or a sunshine Patriot is weak and only fights in good conditions like the summer and quits after it gets hard for them, also the sunshine Patriot doesn’t deserve love or thanks from men or women. Since they fought in good conditions they were not considered strong by Washington but if they fought whenever they were called strong by Washington. This was the time when Washington was seeing who was weak and who was strong. I would not want to be called weak nor does a lot of people, so I would stay because I wanted to be called strong. It also said that “the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph”(doc D). This evidence means that the bigger the problem you get then the more success you will get from winning or solving the problem. In document D it states that “what we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly lightly”. So from this evidence it means that freedom is very big, so we should all value freedom.
So would I quit or would I stay? I would not quit Washington’s army because… there are a lot of sick people, but not a lot dying, again Washington is getting help from the congressmen, and lastly, I don’t want
