From that day on, starting each spring for nine years, I was outside practicing to be the best player I could be. Still to this day, even though I don’t play baseball anymore, nothing comes close to the energy and excitement I get from a baseball diamond because my body becomes full of energy, my mind begins to replay player’s actions and nothing seems to break my mind and focus on winning the game. Walking up to the gate my heart starts beating…

As I walked into the stadium, the smell of hotdogs and popcorn filled the air. It was a familiar setting. A setting I had grown to know very well because my dad loved baseball. The red white and blue colors were everywhere as fans came from every direction into the stadium. My dad and I walked to the outfield where the opposing team was warming up for the game.…

I have played baseball ever since I was a young kid, but somehow, at seventeen I still had numerous struggles with it. You would think after my grandpa being drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team, and my dad getting a full ride to the University of Denver their skill would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. I wasn't terrible, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball and I could, for the most part, field a ground ball. However, I was definitely not about to be scouted by the college scouts.…

Failure has the power to change lives; many cannot handle the presence of failure. I remember the first time I failed at something it changed my state of mind from high to low, filled me with anxiety and turned my world into chaos. What had such a powerful impact on my life is loved all over the United States, it is known as “America’s pass time,” the great sport of baseball. I originally decided to join baseball to make my family proud, no one else in my family played sports anymore due to harsh injuries. I would always hear my father say the day he had a son who played baseball would be the happiest day of his life.…

For as long as I can remember, I have always played as the left fielder in baseball. Playing this position was always easy for me. When I estimated the trajectory of a ball speeding through the air, I could always run to where I thought it would be and catch it. It was as if the outfield became my home, I was comfortable there. One day during practice, my coach told me to try and play as the first baseman.…

It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…

One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…
