“We’ve never lost an American in space and we’re sure as hell not gonna lose one on my watch! Failure is not an option!” Said by Gene Kranz on the movi Apollo 13, the ‘Failure is not an option’ phrase has been used by various action movies as a cliché which shows authority and badassery. Every character on this kind of movie says that failing on their specific job (or mission, if you really want to be that badass) is not what they are expecting. Fail this mission and you don’t exist on our lives, that’s it.…
Be Proactive, with Two Eyes and One Mouth Out of the 7 habits in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teen, I've picked two which are Habit 1 and Habit 5. Habit 1 is "Be Proactive; I Am The Force". Habit 5 is "Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood; You Have Two Eyes and One Mouth". When using these two habits, it could help people in many ways in life.…
Adults can effectively support and extend the speech, language and communication development of children during early years by making learning fun and enjoyable and using games that require a lot of repetition and turn taking. Singing songs is another way and children don’t realise they are learning this way. Make sure you speak clearly and pronounce your letters and words correctly so children don’t get confused and can easily copy back to you. Always have a positive, friendly tone of voice, smile and use positive body language to encourage children to follow your example. Always give positive comments to children and try to encourage repeated good behaviour by rewarding them with things like stickers and team points so thy and others want to copy this behaviour.…
1.2: Different observation methods Running records (or Descriptive Narrative Record)- A detailed account of behavior recorded in a persistent manner as it happens; Not restricted to a specific incident like it would in an anecdotal record; The observer records everything seen or maybe even heard. Anecdotal records A brief narrative account describing an incident of a child's behavior that is of interest to the observer. Anecdotes describe what happened how it happened when where what was said and done…
“Mrs. Prosser! Mrs. Prosser!” the chunky, troublemaker David shouted, jumping out of his seat. “Emily glued her butt to the chair!” “Mr. Newton, are you being a tattle tail right now?”…
Imagine you're entering to your class after a nice and long summer vacation. Your teacher tells you that you're having a test to see how you're doing in that math, english or science class. I am pretty sure that you will not do that well on your test, thanks to your nice and long summer vacation. That is one of the reasons why I believe that a year-round school schedule is better or more helpful for students than having a traditional schedule. to have a better understanding on what we are doing.…
I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…
In his book What’s Wrong with the World, G.K. Chesterton states “If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly.” Chesterton does not mean that if saving lives is worth doing, we should all run around with no medical knowledge trying to save lives, or that if our room needs cleaning, it is okay to clean it poorly. What he means is that if the more important things in life are worth doing, it is okay to do them poorly because it is more important that we do them rather than not do them at all. Up until my freshman year, I was a living a life that could be summed up in a version of the quote that would say “If a thing is worth doing, I should avoid it and someone else can do it instead because I am not the right person to be doing this thing.”…
There are some things that we want our dear teachers to know and some things we don’t. The top two things on that list that are pretty true for any middle schoolers. Number one, I did not fall of the chair to get attention. It can be pretty bad when you get laughed at by the class. But I only used this because it can happen for other things like getting yelled at by the teacher, falling on the wet floor, I can go on forever.…
I nearly flunked Spanish 2 sophomore year. I transferred to a new school known as St. Joseph Notre Dame High School, where we had a strict teacher, Mr. Mueller. The second day of his class, we were given a quiz, and given my past history with Spanish 1, I knew I had this one in the bag. How I was farther from the truth, as it only took 2 failing quizzes for him to come up to my desk and say to me "I recommend you try again. From the beginning.…
Throughout much of my time in school I have always been assigned some sort of writing assignment; that could be a two or three page essay or just a writing assignment, but I have always felt confident in my work when they are turned in. In my works that I have turned, I have always received a quite acceptable grade until the first day of school my junior year. I signed up for the American Studies course with Mrs. Gilly and that day I realized that my previous works for other classes would not be acceptable for her standards. At first, I had underestimated her and her class, but that thinking did not last long. Within a week of her class, I had started on the path for excellence.…
Ever since I can remember, every personalized note from a teacher, whether it be on a report card or yearbook, emphasized how much better I would do if I could just focus. If I would just follow-through, my true potential would shine. As a teenager, I rolled my eyes and allowed the commentary to roll off my back. “Half-ass”, “lazy”, “procrastinator”, were all words thrown in my direction by my mother growing up, comparing me to my biological father whom I had yet to meet, so I had zero reference. Over the years, it became obvious to me that no matter what I tried, I wouldn’t satisfy her need for me to go all the way- either professionally or personally.…
My Classroom Management Philosophy I believe that classroom management plays a major role in creating a successful classroom. A successful classroom must be a safe learning environment, offer positive encouragement to encourage students to make the right choices, set rules that are understood by the students, and creating responsible students who can take control over their own work. This type of classroom is a major goal of mine because I feel as though the students would really benefit. I am committed to creating a safe environment and creating positive reinforcement within my classroom.…

Prosper or Perish Are you aware that Lincoln Land community college has 124 full-time teaching faculty and 226 part-time instructors?
