How To Obey Gays In The Military

In 2010 Barack Obama repealed the ¨Dont Ask, Don't Tell Act¨ allowing gay individuals to serve and it was looked upon as a great step forward towards full acceptance of gay people in the U.S.( Diversity Studies Collection). Although on the military people's sexualities could have negative repercussions, your orientation is one of your basic human rights and if you serve in the military your superiors should take action to be sure you are treated as everyone else because sexuality has no effect on your performance or your cohesion with others.

The Military should be welcoming gays into the military, but instead, they discriminate not because of the skill they possess but because of their orientation. The US military even did a study in 2010 and it proved that sexuality had no effect on how they perform or their cohesion with others, yet they continue to discharge talented soldiers. For example, the navy discharged a decorated officer because of his homosexuality. But the government still says they don't discriminate.

Officers in the military blatantly state “Gays are second class citizens and deserve to be treated badly¨ (DADT repealed,3).In Fact, In 2011 a man named Victor Fehrenbach, a decorated war veteran was discharged over his sexuality after over 80 combat missions. And the Govt. Tried to say that he was discharged for safety reasons.” We are blatantly being lied to and yet we choose to do nothing about it but think about the people in the military being discharged because of their homosexuality and are forced to use a cover up. The truth is that the military is too concerned about their image to care about the people's lives they are constantly ruining. They are also forgetting that sexuality does not affect their cohesion with others because gay people aren't the
