When I first enrolled here at Tarrant County College, I did not believe I would make it through my first semester here. Academically college is nothing similar to high school. In college you are advised to study and spend your time wisely or you will fail your exams. Unlike High School, where students are able to study a couple hours before their exam and still have a passing grade. In college, I realized time management and good study habits are a very successful way to get you through the semester. Students should learn how to manage their time more responsibly by creating helpful study habits. For example, learn to develop the four C’s: critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating and collaborating. These skills have helped me survive …show more content…
Students must successfully complete this class with a grade of C or above. STSC 0111 is a 1-hour non-credit course that teaches important skills to help you become college ready and succeed. This course will help you with time management, listening and taking notes, and preparing for examinations using learning resource’s if you are a first time in college student and you do not take (STSC) you will not be eligible to enroll in any college course. College classes require more time management and consistency within your study habits. The first couple of weeks in college will go by great. Attending class daily, taking notes from the lectures. Attending class daily and taking notes are not enough to get you to pass exams. This is why this course is designed to get students college-ready. This course is focused on teaching students numerous of helpful study habit strategies. Some of the study habits learned are how to properly take notes and manage study time wisely. Academic advisors collaborate with you to help you achieve academic and personal success. Academic advisors will be with you throughout your entire college career if you allow them to. They will help you plan your class schedules, help you understand about transferring to four year university’s, explore career options and resource and help you find various campus service like tutoring. Most academic advisors will lecture you about the four C’s of critical thinking. Critical thinking helps obtain great problem solving and analytical skills. These skills will not only be helpful in college, but also in everyday life. This skill will help you collaborate better with classmates and solving problems. The steps to critical thinking are first identifying your problem, Once you have identified the problem your second step is to analyze the different perspectives of one another, then you brainstorm all the possible solutions of the problem and last decide what solution fits best for you. These critical thinking skills will make a big transformation in not only college life but also in everyday life. Not only will college advisors advice you in college but also provide professional advising and counseling services of personal

    This introduction to the college environment has helped me to feel less scared about the transition from high school to college, and it has improved my confidence in my ability to manage as a college student.
