Pumpkin Carving All across the country people choose to get into the Halloween spirit by carving designs into pumpkins. It is one of many Halloween memories that will stick with you forever. There’s so much excitement when you pick the perfect pumpkin, pull out all the yucky guts, decide on faces, light them up and then, of course, make yummy pumpkin seeds. After all, Halloween wouldn’t be the same without a carved pumpkin sitting on your porch.
Pumpkin carving is an essential skill that everyone, no matter the age, should be able to perform. What’s great about carving pumpkins is that you can carve them with your friends or family and still make a party out of it.
The first thing you will absolutely need to be successful in this new adventure is a pumpkin. You can be boring and go to a grocery store near you that carries pumpkins and buy one there, but that takes away from the fun. A better alternative is going to a pumpkin patch. Yes, finding that perfect pumpkin is no walk in the park, but it is so exciting once you do find the one you have been looking for. Most of the pumpkin guts can be scooped out, put into a bowl, and later thrown away, but the seeds can be saved and baked for a nutritious snack. After you successfully hollow out your pumpkin you can address the pumpkin seeds. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Rinse the seeds off in the sink to make sure all of the unwanted goop is off of them. Place them in a bowl and toss them in vegetable or olive oil. Once there is a thin layer of oil covering the pumpkin seeds lay them flat on a baking tray. Make sure the seeds aren’t on top of each other and then sprinkle salt on them. Have an adult place the baking tray into the oven and set the timer for 25 to 30
