Guinea pigs are herbivores that eat lots of fruits and vegetables. The most important part of a guinea pig’s diet, however, is hay. This makes up 85 -90% of their daily feeding and should always be provided to your guinea pigs. You must show the pigs the difference between bed and eating hay as most of them pee/poo in their bedding. You can do this by buying a hay rack or placing the hay in a bowl.
Fruits and vegetables are also important for a healthy pig diet and they should be given fresh produce every day and it should be removed after 24 hours. One cup of freshly chopped up fruit and vegetables (10% fruit, 90% vegetables) should be fed per pig a day.
Some very good vegetables for guinea pigs are: alfalfa, radish, clover sprout, basil, Brussel sprouts, carrots, carrot tops*, broccoli, clover, cucumber, dandelion greens (NO pesticides)*, green peppers, mint, parsley*, pea pods*, peppermint leaves, radish tops, raspberry leaves, lettuce, watercress*, wheat grass – (*) = use no more than twice a week. …show more content…
