Only 1 sea turtle out of 100 makes it to adulthood. Statistics show that out of 100 eggs only 1% makes it to adulthood. Sea turtles are dying and we need to do something about it. Oil spills are destroying the the lives of sea turtles before they even hach. Oil can seep into a egg and permanently affect the baby from killing it to causing deformities. Oil can also take out adults. According NOAA when a turtle takes in oil it goes down the throats and coats the inside of the turtle. This causes the turtle to become mired and unable to swim. Oil is killing turtles before and after they are born. We need to clean the sea and stop putting oil in it. Artificial lighting is a threat to baby and female turtles. Lit up beaches drive female turtles away. This could have them go to bad beaches where they could be killed, animals would attack eggs, or so many animals eat the babies that only a few make it to the water. The lighting can affect the babies to. Due to natural instinct baby sea turtles head towards the light. This can be bad when you have artificial lighting for it make the babies head into the city where they can be killed. Artificial lighting is causing lots of problems for sea turtles. Scientist estimate that in 2025 there will be 1 pound of trash for every 3 pounds of fish. This is a problem for trash can cause very big problems. Marine debris has also created other problems. Scientist say that trash may have caused a new disease called Fibropapillomatosis. Fibropapillomatosis is a disease where tumors appear on and in the body. Tumors on the outside can be removed. Tumors on the inside cannot be removed and have no cure. Marine debris is causing problems for sea turtles left and right for sea turtles. If not stopped we could lose sea turtles
