At this point in the story, Day was on the rooftop of his house with June and Commander Jameson on the ground near the house. Day was being asked to come down to be arrested, and he was refusing. Because of this, Commander Jameson decides to tell Thomas to shoot Days mother to bring him down. After this happens June thinks, “The woman Thomas shoots hasn't even crumpled to the ground yet when I see the boy launch himself from the rooftop. I freeze. This is all wrong. No one's supposed to get hurt.” This shows that June can be kind and compassionate because she thinks that killing someone else was unnecessary and wrong. She disagreed with Commander Jameson, even if it did help them catch Day.
