Initial Assessment Essay
Hello my name is Jacob Lumpkin. When I made my decision to attend college English Composition was a class that I had a lot of interest in because I feel like it is a great opportunity for me to learn how to become a better writer. I feel by improving my writing skills I will be more equipped with the necessary skills that will help me achieve my goal of obtaining my college degree and the knowledge needed to start my own business.
The reason I am attending college is because I love to learn and try new things. I love the feeling of setting goals for myself and then achieving them. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and encourages me to push myself to take on bigger and more difficult tasks. I love being challenged because it shows that when you put all your effort into obtaining a goal you can do so much more than what you thought you could do before. The first thing would be to master the MLA style of writing. I want to learn how write more fluently and clearly. I want to learn how to properly cite and reference things I am writing about while learning how to communicate with other people more effectively. I also hope to learn to work with other people and meet deadlines consistently because that’s a very important thing when starting a new business.
My goals for my first semester in college would be to push myself to have all A’s and turn all my assignments in on time. I want to learn how to communicate better in writing and in speech. I also want to grow more as a person this semester and get out of my comfort zone more often.
I plan to accomplish my goals by hard work . My parents always taught me that you can do anything you set your mind to. I plan to spend a lot of time studying and asking questions when I need help. I plan to attend every class so I don’t miss any important information and consistently take good notes in every class for
