At a moment when many hospitals are challenged with this same concern of nursing shortages throughout their communities, we are confronted with the awareness that this is the time to act fast to make a difference not only for the present matter of maximizing staffing efforts, but, to develop the knowledge base of our succeeding new hires fresh out of school with the hopes that they are as well-informed as the more veteran nursing staff that have been operating as a nurse for countless years.
The research analysis has shown that several hospitals throughout the nation have gone through similar circumstances within their facilities, thus some hospitals partnered with local schools, nursing programs which has presented state grants in order to service candidates of their choosing upon completion of their courses to aid with the shortages in their hospital crisis. “Funded by Nurse Support Program (NSP) grants from the state of Maryland, Hopkins nurses are exploring a variety of approaches for improving retention among new and experienced nurses.” (Krause, 2008) This quote is an example of one step taken in hopes to improve the retention efforts that the Johns Hopkins hospital in Maryland is experiencing and the steps ahead towards recovery and development. Research has determined that due to the nursing shortage the mortality rate has increased and have additional nurses at the patient’s beds would save their lives. Having longer hours within the hospital has been shown through research that many nurses are over worked and because of this patient are at a high risk of deaths during
