Delivery of culturally competent care takes place in a setting plagued of communication, cultural, and health knowledge barriers. A community nurse may also experience cultural disagreement characterized by a feeling of discomfort precipitated by patient beliefs that are obstinately nonnegotiable. Cultural competence may further be hindered by lack of knowledge or influence from peers. Other barriers to cultural competency include prejudice, cultural imposition of personal values on clients, stereotyping, racism, cultural blindness, and cultural clash precipitated by misunderstanding expectations. All these barriers can destroy or diminish client-patient relationship, that is why is indispensable for nurses to improve their cultural competence
