In my stage one paper, I discussed how the article, about the long-term effect of spanking on children, was not credible because of experimental errors. I went on to discuss the errors throughout the article and explain them. In my stage 2 paper, I talked about how the claim in the popular press article about odors triggering memories, was not credible. I was able to go more in depth and use my critical thinking skills even more in my stage 2 paper. I gave specific details about why the claim was not credible. For example, I explained why a control group is necessary in an experiment and why the claim is not as credible without a control group. If everyone only thought about topic at a surface level, problems would never be solved. Problem solving is one of the big areas that can require critical thinking. As a business major, I hope to be a manager one day and I think that being able to critically think is essential. When an issue arises in a company, there needs to be people that can critically analyze the issue in order to come up with a solution. Another reason that critical thinking is so essential is so that we can understand deeper meanings to certain pieces of writing. It is important to know what the purpose of different articles are so you can better understand them.
