Deborah Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University, evaluate the difference between direct and Indirect communication and its effectiveness towards peoples’ way of life with her essay How to Give Orders Like a Man. Tannen challenges the belief that talking in an indirect way indubitably reveals an absence of self-confidence or shows a powerless individual who has no real authority. There are multiple aspects touching on how each individual communicates with others, such as gender, culture, and relationship.
