Tips for surfing: how to get started in Stand-Up Paddle?

The Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) is the physical activity of more complete basis that I propose in the method Surf Therapy . SUP makes skiing standing on water accessible to all. We speak here only of the SUP on the flat. In the right conditions, with the right equipment and the right support, anyone can get to skim over the water on a SUP from the first session!

Prerequisites:
You must know how to swim and know only stand to introduce you to Stand-Up Paddle. It is not absolutely essential to know surfing, even if it can help.

Under what conditions?
In SUP, learning to walk for the second time in his life ... but on water this time! Just as you would learn not to an infant to walk on a sloping terrain, one should avoid the turbulent waters for beginners. Choose a dish of water in the sea or a lake for example. There should not be any waves , no currents , no winds and no splashing. The ideal water level to start is smooth as a mirror. The huge advantage of SUP is that you can start in a stable and secure environment (this is not the case for surf lessons that ask beginners to immediately get to manage the board and the waves). This allows to acquire the technique of positioning and manoeuvrage on the board safely. It is only once you master your board on the dish you gradually will complicate things by going on a slightly choppy water and wrinkled before you risk possibly one day on the waves. But beware, the SUP surfing in the waves requires a lot more experience!

Slide Board Product Information The first slide board was designed by Former Miami Dolphins football player Jeff Markland and his initial purpose was to use in the rehabilitation of injured knee joints (Lloyd, 1992). Markland created his own model, and called it Kneedspeed, after having seen Eric Heiden, a gold medal speed skater in the Olympiads using a similar product (Lloyd, 1992). Then, Markland associated with Kathy Stevens of Reebok and they developed the Reebok slide board (Lloyd, 1992). In the 1990s, slide board came into the fitness field which also is called lateral slide training, but it did not gain much popularity; because the lateral sliding movements seemed unnatural if you lack the inner thigh strength to boost your bodies across the board (Lloyd, 1992).…

Inner Boston Harbor's Thompson Island is a gem of an easy access spot if you're looking for fishing the flats for striped bass or deeper and structured-waters on the same plus bluefish. Access is good: kayak fishermen can use the little-more-than-a-mile-from-the-island hand-carry at City Point, ditto the ramp at Malibu Beach, Neponset for powerboaters with trailers with four-wheel drive. In addition to flats fishing on the island's back side, Thompson holds within its contours two tidal marshes and a large sandbar and bunker that connect the island to Squantum's Squaw Rocks mussel beds at low tide, themselves a good bait source. And because most anglers prefer Boston harbor's outer islands, the Brewsters and so on, or the Faun Bar off Deer…

Native Hawaiian surfer, Bethany Hamilton, lived by the belief that, “ I can do all things through he who gives me strength”. This motivation as seen in this YouTube video, was necessary after an ordinary Halloween afternoon in 2003 when thirteen-year-old Bethany was surfing. She experienced the dreaded nightmare of the ocean, a shark attack. While the surf was slow and she was lying on her board, she felt an abrupt tug on her left arm. The ocean quickly turned red before she realized her arm was gone up to the shoulder.…

How hard could it be to stand up on a board? Well, this first experience gave way to my development of mental persistence. It was the intense inclination to make it out to the lineup that thrust my mind into a trance, cultivating my curiosity for the prediction of what was to come. I was mindful of direction, and although my arms tired of pulling dense liquid through and through, it seemed like I had a duration of time just long enough to fathom the beauty of the sun hitting the water so as to make it seem like stars were dancing on the surface. I had time to consider the flow and direction of water and how rejuvenating the salt water felt on my skin, and to ponder the movement of water and how it firmly pushed against the board trying to send me back to shore.…

The bed mercilessly taunts my exhausted limbs to return but my determined heart persuades me to brave the trial by water once more. As I dive over the ice cold pool, dread and regret fill every moment until my body finally makes contact. For two, sometimes three, hours the situation will only worsen as I repeatedly raise my arms above my head and pull back as hard as possible. Weeks of this pass by, all for the sake of being able to travel through 100 meters of water a few milliseconds faster. Swimming has been my primary sport since the age of eight.…
