How To Evaluate Your Communication Competence

Learning about communication competence, and doing this activity has opened up a door of curiosity and evaluation when it comes to my communication skills. I am now more aware of my competent skills when engaging in communication because I have a better understanding of the six different ways to evaluate competence and my competence scale. The activity has helped me see the areas that I need to work on, and the ones that I am the most competent on. According to the communication competence scale and some self-observations that I have made on myself, I have the most strengths in the areas of appropriateness, satisfaction, and ethics. Appropriate communication is strength of mine because most of the time I know when to keep my mouth shut and when to speak. Sometimes you have to control what you say and also know how to appropriately address different types of people in different scenarios. …show more content…
A huge example of this in my life are the conversations I have with my mother because she knows everything about me and continuously gives me advice on how to face different struggles in life. Because we trust each other and communicate on a daily basis, our relationship keeps growing every day. We both find satisfaction in those conversations because she wants the best for me and I want her advice on every step of the way. Being ethical is also very important to me because good values and doing what is right helps me become not only a good individual but also a more skilled communicator. It is essential for me to treat everybody else the way I want to treat it which is with respect, kindness, and the truth.
