Instead of running away, Mrs.Jones builds up enough courage to take Roger home and teach him a lesson. The thing that gave Mrs.Jones the courage to do the right thing was her past experiences. The text states,“I have done things, too, which I would not tell you, son-neither tell god, if he didn’t already know.” (Hughes 35) This shows that Mrs.Jones made some mistakes in her life and she wants to be a good role model and help Roger. He could run, run, run, run, run!”(Hughes 32) He could have run, however he did not. That was his conscience telling him to not run. Now the reason why and how Roger and Mrs.Jones had the courage to do the right thing is

In Josh Sundquist’s book Just Don't Fall he covers many aspects of the average human and the way we go about things. One aspect that I like is he really strives to show the drive, and the urge to never give up no matter what circumstances you are presented with. After reading this book I really decided to rethink many aspects of my own life and questioned how determined am I to actually do stuff. One way I plan to apply this to my own life is by putting all my effort into something if i'm going to even bother with it in the first place. What I mean is I don't wanna half ass it if my names going to be on the paper.…

This change tells us that Roger no longer has any moral conscience to hold him back and refrain him from acting nefariously. He freely embraces his lust for blood and violence without mental penalization, this also indicates that “Roger’s arm,” is no longer, “conditioned by...civilization” (Golding 62). All civility is gone.…

Roger represents the worst of mankind. When Goulding first introduces Roger he is described as “slight, furtive boy whom no one knew, who kept to himself with inner intensity of avoidance and secrecy” in which he seems more corrupt and savage than Jack (22). Later, Roger is found throwing rocks at Henry in which he was “[throwing] it to miss” and his “arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins”(62). As it says “[Roger’s] arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins” Roger is not going to be able to hold the much restrain of the “taboo of his old life” for much longer (62). As the novel moves forward, that restrain breaks.…
