A cold torrent of wind hit me with such force that it seemed to go right through my bones. It was already freezing outside, but the goose bumps that covered every inch of my body after seeing such a breathtaking view made it seem much colder. Cloudcroft is a small mountain town in New Mexico and the kind of place that you would see on a post card. It continues to look and feel perfect year round.
There are large looming trees that seem as tall as skyscrapers and mountains with snow caps. The dangerously twisty roads over look beautiful mountains and hills. There is a little bit of everything for everyone, which is another reason it’s so amazing. Shopping, movies, hiking, mountain biking and skiing are but just a few of the practically listless things that can be done in New Mexico. The weather feels amazing almost year round, even in the summer it stays at around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, which makes it seem like paradise.
One of the things I enjoyed immensely was the old fashioned pizza parlor that served the best pizza I have ever tasted. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but shortly after my stepdad and I ordered, we came to the sudden realization that we just had the best pizza ever made. When it came out to us the first thing I noticed was the freshly melted cheese, and how greasy it was, in my opinion that made it better.
On the second day there we did some light hiking in an area where Native Americans used to reside. There were several rocks with petroglyphs on them, which was absolutely awesome to see something that old.
