Across the sea Gliding across the sea I enjoyed my little spot away from the crowds of the lower levels. I basked in the red ball of heat, the sun, while the wind carried my hair creating small messy waves. The smell of the sea made me feel at ease as I leaned across the railing closing my eyes ever so slightly. Coming from Poland I had never travelled across water until we had gotten a letter from a cousin whom I had not met, reciently she had left Germany, her home, in travel to America. America, the land of oppourtnity they called it. Mother had heared of all the wonderful things like nickolodeans, coney island, department stores, and most importantly jobs. …show more content…
We waited and waited, more children filled in along with another girl my age, being the oldest in the room we easily bonded. She had told me she was from Poland too, it was funny how we had never came across each other before. I had also learned her name was Emily, she had no siblings and her mom was sick. Emily’s mother had caught something on the ship and was being quarnteened at that very moment. I comfortade my new friend until what I assumed was a nurse came in, her long brown curls bouncing as she walked over. The lady instructed us in alphabetical order and stated when our name was called to go to the white room at the end of the hall. Standing in the front of the line I wasnt nervous unlike some of the other children surronding me. Being called down I left my brother with Emily and stepped into the small room where they checked my heart, eyes and overall physcal status. I was all good, atleast thats what the doctor said and as soon as I had came in I was out just like that. I was lastly lead to the big hall where I waited patiently for my family. After we gathered, we head out the door, the only barrier between freedom. Freedom from
