By being a well-rounded student through my diverse involvements at Xavier, I inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and branch out and try new things. As a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, I experienced culture shock which made me isolate myself from the Xavier community since adjusting to a new environment, weather, education system, food, and culture was difficult for me. As soon as I decided to get involved in my second semester at Xavier, I began getting the full Xavier experience that is always advertised as I formed relationships with people who would later positively impact my life. My decision to get involved has opened my eyes to many opportunities and has led me to win prestigious scholarship awards at Xavier such as the 2016 Antonio Johnson scholarship and receive the 2016 Diversity and Inclusion recognition award for my efforts to create a campus culture of diversity and inclusion.…
1. NC State is a community that is strong because of the diversity of our perspectives and experiences. Please describe how you could contribute to or benefit from campus diversity. I would like to be part of a community where I will meet people from all walk of life who has a lot to offer. I may never have experience with cultures, religion, different interest and hobbies, religions, an environment which I may not see before.…
The diversity at NC State is one of the many reasons that draws me to the University. I look forward to meeting the vast array of individuals who all unite as one in the Wolfpack. Diversity will allow me to understand different people for who they are, not how they are presented in the media and popular culture. Different viewpoints, languages, ethnic groups, and nationalities are just a few of the things I hope to experience at NC State. I find it important to create acquaintances from various backgrounds in order to unite ourselves as fellow humans, regardless of where we were born or what language we speak.…
As Pennsylvania's only land-grant university, Penn State has a broad mission of teaching, research, and public service. In 1855, the Commonwealth chartered it as one of the nation's first colleges of agricultural science, with a goal to apply scientific principles to farming. A series of undergraduate branch campuses were established in the1930s primarily to meet the needs of students who were location-bound during the Great Depression. Those campuses were predecessors of today's system of 24 Penn State campuses located throughout the Commonwealth. Penn State began offering systematic advanced-degree work in 1922 with the formation of the Graduate School.…
Diversity is a key element for a proper learning environment; students must be amongst people of other backgrounds to be exposed to the variation in the real world. In the scientific community, collaboration with others is necessary, and often, they come from an alternate way of life. Working with someone who may be different in many ways has numerous benefits; they may be able to propose ideas that you had not previously considered, or they could inform you of something that has the potential to assist you later in life. Living in a diverse setting not only an educational benefit, but it also aids in the preparation for the real world. We live in an extremely diverse location, with people immigrating from various places around the world.…
Diversity is a concept that can prove beneficial, especially in a college setting. However, the full effects of it cannot be discerned until people have an accurate grasp for what diversity truly entails. As a part of a high ranked research institution and leading college in the nation, you have the responsibility to not only make the true nature of diversity known to your student body but to also utilize its many elements as a basis for your admission process. Again, by using race-based affirmative action, you will not achieve…
How can belonging and participating within a diverse community aid in the development of your academic, social and career goals? I usually enjoy starting my papers of with my name Taylor Andrews, what I’m entering for, the battle royal for everything, and my level a EKU JR, and arrogantly but rightly deserves it. Then I would give a generic merriam-webster dictionary for diversity; the quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc, and then give my view. You may not agree but still feel as if EKU has a large way to go compared to Rutgers University in NJ with a diversity. Diversity plus Eastern Kentucky University is supposed to equal melting pot, but I have not seen this diverse world clearly.…
I can benefit from the campus diversity at NC State because I want to be at a diverse school. A place where people aren't judged based on the color of their skin. Where people with different backgrounds are able to come together and be united. Where, all people have the opportunity to become what they want. I believe NC State is that place where people aren't judged.…
UNV-100 Final Project It is enjoyable to me when study at a university with multi-cultural students and professors. What differentiates the students from each other at the AUAF are the racial, ethnical and gender varieties. It is obvious that the students who came from western part of Afghanistan culturally differ from the one who joined AUAF from northern part of the country. From my point of view, diversity in a society, specially, at the university is not only an opportunity for the students to learn about different cultures and demography, but help us to improve the quality of life and education by conspiring of their views and opinions pertaining enhancement of quality education and life.…
I will use my time at Furman University to make close connections with my classmates and professors and to grow in my knowledge of finance and economics. My objective at Furman is to surround myself with spiritual people who will push me to achieve my goals even after graduation. The diverse community at Furman University will enable me to expand my knowledge of different religions and allow me to teach others about Christianity. Also, keeping connections with a variety of people will allow me to learn from others experiences and to share my experiences with others as well.…
Diversity Statement Edi Hernandez In an ever growing college community that welcomes more and more diversity it is important to understand the different backgrounds and accept those differences in order to grow together. Diversity means being able to emphasize with someone and embrace that person for who they are and not judge but to broaden our understanding of what it means to live and experience life in all types of ways. In this position I will have to interact and hear a lot of different backgrounds from student that are seeking services from the TRiO SSS STEM programs on Aims’ campus.…
Please describe how you could contribute to or benefit from campus diversity. Luckily, this is one area of NC State that I have had the opportunity to experience first hand. My family has maintained season football tickets since my youth, and my Mother received her masters degree from the NC State School of Education. These opportunities have allowed me a glimpse into the diversity that is Wolfpack Nation.…
These experiences encourage student growth, character development and mimic real life situations. The effect diversity has on a campus is instrumental in setting the tone and culture for both its internal and external community. Culture is the “social fabric of community”, implying that as groups live and work together they develop distinctive “philosophies, ideologies, values, assumptions, beliefs,…
For example, people, religions and sexes to form a group or community. Listener Relevance: In our society today, some people see diversity as a positive and negative thing. Diversity gives people different view about our world and makes them step out of their comfort zone. In America, some people openly welcome diversity, while others are against. Chloe Evens a Bio Pre-Med students and is associated with the Black United Students (BUS) said, “I feel that Kent State does a great job with diversity on campus.…
Diversity adds color and interest to the world as different people and cultures share ideas, traditions, and values. Unfortunately, at times diversity is not accepted. This is seen through prejudice and discrimination. On the bright side, many people today have a positive outlook on diversity such as myself and the University of Toledo.…
