For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

Middle school affected me in various ways, such as adapting to changes, befriending my peers, and dealing with discrimination. Getting accustomed a different environment was such a challenge. On the second day of middle school I thought that it was a good idea to make new friends, I kind of took the whole "new school year, new me" thing too serious. I tried to talk to the girl who sat beside me in my Science class and I believe that a tree had more of a personality than her.…

Belonging didn't really occur to me in middle school years. I was a very comfortable person with my friends and my surroundings. It only occurred to me at the beginning of my senior years that the friends I had were hypocritical and weren't the best people to hang out with. talking behind peoples back in their own friendship group and gossiping about the same people everyday wasn’t really my scene. After I left those friends I felt lost and confused like i hadn't really planned who i was going to be friends with and what I was going to do next.…
