Spears states that “great leaders is first experienced as a servant to others,” which I now understand as I have grown into leadership roles. From my perspective when I moved into a leadership role, I did my best to follow the examples of my managers, directors, people that I wanted to emulate as I managed my employees. For me to be a good manager, there were steps that managers needed to follow. Which was to build team coherence, collaboration, and communication. Tesco’s leadership is one that sits between autocratic and democratic. Managers will inspire employees to dedicate themselves to the success of their company as well as involving them in the decision-making process. However, there are situations when managers have to take full control, steer decisions towards a certain direction and “persuade their teams to accept their viewpoint” (“Developing Appropriate Leadership Styles”, 2015, para. 13). Tesco’s leadership approach, which combines the democratic one and autocratic one, is unquestionably the most appropriate because it allows team participation up to a certain point but also gives managers full control over the workforce and exclusive decisional power.…
Based on what I know about myself and what I have been through, I have put together my Leadership Philosophy: I want to encourage an environment that stays positive throughout their tenure in the Coast Guard. I want to strengthen my workspace by facilitating relationships of trust in order to have a common goal and vision. It is hard for me to venture out of the comfort zone but I want to listen carefully to the pulse and ideas of the people I lead, because part of leading is listening. The ideas of those I lead can easily be my ideas too, A fresh look on how things are done will often surprise even the modest learner. The future of the Coast Guard can be as bright as new recruit sees it or as gloom as a salty Chief in visions it, I vow to make encompass a bright future for the new generation to make their mark.…
This attribute is an essential quality of leadership as it enables people to understand the perception of their followers (Sohmen 2013). Throughout the lecture Mike discussed that helping employees to be the best that they can be will help the company grow. This means that as a leader, you must help employees identify who they are and their role in the corporation. When given the right amount of education, a person can gain the knowledge that is critical in generating ideas to increase productivity of the company. The book has helped and advised me in stating mission and vision and clearly to the people I would lead in the present or future. The SAF core values are important as they served as the basic foundations for an SAF. I feel immensely proud of the success of my organization due to how it steadfastly instills its core values. As a leader of my organization I should not defer from the core values due to influence but instead emphasis its importance to the best I can to the people I lead in the present or future. I envision myself being the kind of leader who can accomplish all of this by having positive, healthy relationships with those around me. I plan to lead my team with the mentality that striving for the best results at everyone’s own pace is the key to success.
