There are several different ways to obtain the training and education to become a Police detective. The many requirements to know are job responsibilities; the higher knowledge needed and also need bachelors and or Associate. “Because detectives work on a wide variety of cases, if you are interested in this field, you are encouraged to take a diverse load. English, American history, business law, Government, psychology, sociology, chemistry, physics and suggested courses in journalism, computers and a foreign language” (Infobase). These would be the courses required to be in the police detective field. There are many reasons why they need certain class requirements like in journalism, to write the reports properly, and a foreign language because what if a person they are helping that does not speak English they will need to understand what is going on. Business law, so they can know the rules of opening their own detective firm and they will know the proper way of handling their business. Another way they hire, by postsecondary training, “Private detectives agencies usually do not hire individuals without previous experience. A large number of private investigators are former police officers. Those with no law enforcement experience who want to become private investigators can enroll in special private investigation schools, although these do not guarantee qualifications for employment.” (Infobase). That would be the median annual pay for the lowest and the highest 10%. There’s also private investigators who are self-employed, work for their own selves. “Private investigators who are self-employed have the potential for making high salaries.”(Infobase). If a person opens up their own business as a private investigator, they get many more benefits and more pay. They can charge by hour which will probably be up to $50 to $100 or even higher.
