Becoming a leader is not something that happens overnight. Becoming a leader is achieved through hard work, commitment and discipline. Being a leader does not come once you are born, it is shaped overtime by life lessons and experiences. A leader is defined differently in everyone because our lives have different paths.
I have many people in my family that are great leaders who I look up to. I am the first born to my parents Jesus and Roecelle Hernandez. My parents have always been a great example of leaders. My father is a man that never gives up and is humble. He is a hard worker and has always provided us with the necessities we needed. My parents gifted me with a younger brother Marcus Hernandez. This made a big impact since I was the only child for five years. My brother has taught me so much and has made me want to be a better leader because he watches what I do. A lot that I do in my life is to make my family proud especially my brother. Such as graduating High School top of my class and being the first to attend college. The things I do and achieve in my life is not a standard that I want my brother to reach I want him to go above me and achieve ten times more than I ever have. Being a leader for him is the best. On the self-assessment, I scored highest in structural. In the self-assessment, structural is stated as “leaders emphasize rationality, analysis, logic, facts, and data. A good leader is someone who thinks clearly, makes the right decision, has good analytic skills, and can design structure” (Bolman & Deal). This test perfectly defined me. An example, is in the workplace. My first job was at a candy store which I worked at for six years. I am considered co-manager. All my skills are utilized at my job, my ability to visualize, articulate, and solve problems by making decisions that are sensible. During an internship, I had at a thrift store in town I was also store manager and the same skills and leadership were utilized especially when I opened a new store front. This would of not be possible if I did not have great leaders in my life that help lead me in the right
