First and foremost, to all of the incoming juniors I would like to advise that they enjoy their experience as a Junior but not stray from their education. Junior year is such an important year for college futures and career paths, that so much uncertainty leads students to stray down the wrong path. As long as they know their priorities, the incoming juniors will be able to enjoy their junior year. Me, as an incoming senior, want to take my own advice and enjoy the year while setting my priorities straight.…

Growing up, I always had my heart set on pursuing a career in the medical field. At the age of 7, I was the only one in my family who could stomach cleaning my mom’s stitches after she shattered her kneecap. The human body fascinated me. Even at this young age, I was in awe of how the surgeons were able to “put my mom back together” and how the body could heal itself. From then on, my passion to gain knowledge of the human body continued.…

I want to take this opportunity to sincerely and formally thank you for all you have done and made possible in helping me progress throughout my time here at SPC. My experience as a member of the Honors College has enhanced my life through the fellowship, better course environments, and the exceptional research conference opportunities and exposure that your leadership has provided. From a student’s standpoint ― especially an “unconventional” student such as myself ― you have given not only fresh and unique opportunities to myself and our membership, but you have given your heart and soul with the purpose of adding an advanced and totally positive learning environment. I know many Honors College alumni privately express this very same message to you ― but your total giving of time, energy, creativity, and true caring should receive far more formal acknowledgement.…

There are so many dimensions to counseling; guiding students with their academic path, creating an environment where they feel safe and supported, being a counselor and identifying risk factors. Beyond these dimensions however I believe the two most important characteristic when defining a counselor are adaptability and resilience. Academic counselors come across diverse populations and I believe there is no standard process when guiding students. The counselor should actively listen to the student and build a professional relationship in order to build trust. Equally important is the ability of the counselor to be resilient and to teach resilience.…
