A Better Writer
When first writing you will not automatically be great at it. There are many steps that can be taken to help you become a stronger writer over time. Reading others who are excellent writers helps you see examples to help you learn and just writing all the time will help plenty also. Over time I do plan to work harder to becoming a stronger writer for my future classes because I do have areas that I learned about myself as a writer that I need to work on. It will take practice to become a quality writer that will include planning, revising, and feedback to learn more about myself as a learning writer.

Critical feedback used to scare me because I know some people will think that they can write better than me and they probably can, but that is not the kind of feedback I like to get. In high school switching papers to receive feedback was something I disliked to do not only because some people were too critical and did not know to be civilized but other people were also not honest enough. So if they said I had a good paper I had expected to receive a decent grade but that was never the case. When I write my papers now I improve them as much as I can and have my boyfriend read them and he is honest enough to tell me what I could make better but he is not too focused on my negatives either. I enjoy receiving feedback because it helps have more confidence in my writing when it is at its best.
Learning how I am as a writer and how I can improve myself lets me know for future purposes what I can do to have a stronger paper. As a writer there is always room to grow and become better. Planning, revising and feedback are just some of the things that I could improve on but those are the ones that I myself as a learner have seen that need to become

Most people can`t be a better writer because they are not engaged with the writing material. The reason why they can't relate to the subject matter is because the professors usually give their students something they are not interested in and then make them write about it. When a student is not interested in something the students don't tend focus as much as they would if it was something they would like. In middle school and high schools writing course don`t teach in a way to help the students learn the material. The instructors teach to help the students to cram for a test and unfortunlly little of the material is retained.…

I really appreciated the feedback I would receive from my drafts from Professor Hedge. The draft feedback was always helpful and it guided me in the right direction on what she was looking for in the assignments. Peer workshops sometimes did benefit me but it depended on who my partner was and their interest in my essay. When I was partners with someone who was interest in what I had to say in my essay it helped. I noticed that majority of the time feedback I would receive from my classmates often times was similar to the feedback I would get back from my professor.…

When it comes to writing for either a class or for my own enjoyment, I never thought of what I actually was good at doing as a writer. I just wrote what came to mind. Now that I’ve given it a thought, I’ve realized that I am consistent in being able to write in complete sentences. They may not always flow or fit together as well as they should but they are complete sentences. Writing is unquestionably hard for me.…

As I have been typing this essay though I have come to realize that I don’t like writing in the slightest other than for practice, it is too time consuming and it bores me. The part of writing that I seem to struggle with is writing itself. This is due to the fact that I don’t have much to say and once I have finished what I actually have to say I have trouble with coming up with more. The only part of writing that I would say that I excel at is the revision process. I have one writing goal, that being to have better grammar, other goals are financial.…

Critical reflection Reflecting back on what I have learnt about myself as a writer is that it is okay to be aware of your weaknesses and using the necessary tools to support and strengthen them. As a writer it is good to step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with new genres. Let your writing take you on an emotional journey, and let your emotions lead your writing into a new journey. As a writer you need to expand your vocabulary and use powerful descriptive words to really create a mental image for your readers. I have learnt to understand the importance of sentence structure, drafting, and proof reading and not over using commas creating sentences that are too long.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
