How To Be Evil Lockhart Analysis

In chapter 4 of "How to be bad" by E. Lockhart, Sarah Mlynowski, and Lauren Myracle it's back in Jesse's point of view. The girls have officially started their road trip to Miami. Jesse still isn't too thrilled about Mel's self invite " I still don't have the slightest clue why Mel wants to go to Miami with us, and my hopes of a last minute back-out have just been dashed" she says to herself as they head down the road. During the first part of their road trip, however, her and Vicks start to learn more about Mel. She's from Canada. Jesse still isn't too amused but things start to lighten up as time passes. It seems to be that Vicks, once eager to see her boyfriend, is now trying to hit any detour she can and Jesse calls her out about it. With Vicks harsh come back "God Jesse" she says and then remains silent for the rest of the time Jesse seems to be really hurt from it because usually they are very playful and joke a lot with each other. Even when a song they both like comes on Jesse refuses to look at Vicks and thinks to herself " What kills me is she doesn't even seem to notice" It seems like their is some sort of disconnect between the two but i feel as if it's because of Vicks stress from her no call …show more content…
She seems to finally feel free and not that 'goody goody' she's always been labeled by. ' "At last" i put the pedal to the metal, and my mood soars' Even before really starting the road trip Jesse's mood really brightens and i can feel her happiness through the reading. I think she's more excited about finally venturing out from her normal life then the trip itself. It's more than just a trip to her, it's freedom. It's doing something different and crazy for once. The author does such a good job at getting every feeling from the girls that i even feel happier as i continue to read it. It's nice to see someone so happy and excited about something different in their life. It's
