Sadly, many students have a fear of doing those things. Making a simple phone call gives some students anxiety, which is all the more reason to require a communications class to be taken by all students before they graduate. Not only would it teach them how to prepare and give a speech, but also how to communicate with others in different scenarios. A required communications course would benefit all students because it would prepare them for college or the workforce, create valuable life skills, and in some cases, help students get over their fear of public speaking.…

As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…
