To become a veterinary technician one will need to earn first an associate's degree in veterinary technology , which usually takes about 2 years to complete studying full time . Miami Dade College , to facilitate the clinical portion of the program , students are assigned to a clinical facility , within Miami Dade College . The requirements are high school diploma , complete the application packet available from the admission office , schedule an appointment to take the computerized placement test , pay an application fee of $25 ; have at least a 2.0 GPA on a scale of 4.0 and had sucessfully completed with a minum grade of "C" the following courses : English Composition , Chemistry for health sciences , Chemistry for health science lab and Intro. to micro- computer usage . The average starting salary for this career is 31,070 . The benefits packages are health insurance , paid vacation , malpratice insurance , dental insurance , life insurance , paid vacations ; paid sick days , and retirement plan .
