As I reflect back over this week reading, webinar, mycounselinglab, discussion posts, lecture and supplemental materials, I learned that I would need to consider many factors in becoming a competence substance counselor. As a counselor, in order for me to address the challenges of my own attitude and beliefs about substance abuse, addiction, and substance abuse counseling, I must be aware of my own negative and positive emotional reactions toward other racial and ethnic groups. If not, I could risk causing issues for the client that could be harmful to my counseling relationship. The client would not benefit from seeking counseling at
