How To Be A Lifeguard

Decent Essays
This Break I had a choice, and a difficult one for that matter. I had the choice to become a lifeguard, or the choice to sleep in everyday. Obviously I wanted to choose the one that let me go to bed at 3:00 AM everyday and wake up at 12 PM, but my parents thought differently. So It was decided that the Lifeguard class was the way to go. Every Morning at 8 AM, I needed to be at the pool. Now at first there was definitely sometimes where I didn’t want to be there, but I just had to keep thinking about how this would help me this summer. This would get me a job that I liked, but not only that, it would get me a job where I didn't have to work a lot of hours. So every morning I was at the pool at around 9 and was done at 3. My day went like this. …show more content…
Rush to the pool. Get to the pool, and do my class for 6 hours. Then after that, go home and play xbox until I fell asleep. You could say that I had a productive time this spring break. In the end it really showed me that, it is better to do something with your day then sleep it all away. If every morning I decided to go back to bed, yes that would be nice, but now this summer I will have a job. Over all, it only took me 5 days to finish that class. That not very long at all, and that short 5 days means that I will have a job this summer. You may read this and think its funny, saying that getting up at 8:30 is early, but in my world, there is never enough time in the day to sleep. This is I would day the biggest dilema of my break,

    Change Or Die Analysis

In the articles “Change or Die” and “Dealing with Ambiguity: The New Business Imperative” I learned a tremendous amount about ambiguity and why it is so important to be able to deal with it. The main lesson I learned from “Change or Die” was the author talking about how the real challenge isn’t changing itself, but it is the conventional thought that change requires facts, fear, and force in order to be successful in changing. Changing people does not come easy and it doesn’t come from scaring someone into change, forcing someone into change, or telling someone to change, rather it comes from being able to emotionally connect with someone and giving them hope that the change can be accomplished and that it will be good for them and that is…

I am willing to bet that there are many astonishing young men and women who have applied for this scholarship. I am also willing to bet there are a fair amount of applicants who meet the unwritten standards needed to receive this scholarship. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…

I made a decision to continue to fight because I knew my outcome wasn’t going to be great. Finding new ways to persuade students to be present to class is vital for the administration. Eliminating one day per week could be enough to motivate the students to attend class more frequently. As a consequence to this solution, the attendance policy would be more strict, fewer days would be allowed to miss, and classes would be longer. Every class Monday-Thursday would be an hour and thirty minutes long, instead of having fifty minute classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and an hour and a half classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Nevertheless, with a four-day school week, students would be able to fit more activities in on their three day break for friends and family, relaxation, and job responsibilities.…

Water Safety It was a hot summer day, and I was working a shift lifeguarding at a local swimming pool. I was taking my break in the staff room when I heard the alarm signal on the radios we use to communicate go off. Rushing outside immediately, I spotted my coworker Sam in the pool rescuing a small child. Fortunately, there were two guards on the pool at that time, so it was still being guarded. I went over to see if Sam needed help, and when I saw that it was handled, I took her spot on the guard stand…
