There is strong evidence of Rule 8 “Avoid adverbs and long paragraphs with no flow”, Rule 10 “master the art of description”, and Rule 11 “Don’t give too much background information” in his stories “ The body” and “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption”. In these stories, it is clear that he takes his rules seriously. King doesn’t like adverbs, he says ”the adverb is not your friend”. He believes that a paragraph should flow, and rhythm. The Body shows how he doesn't use adverbs, he doesn't describe anything with short phrases or adverbs. “ In the place where we were standing, early spring rains had washed part of the embankment …show more content…
The Body is great for that because you meet the kids but you don't know their background right there, it goes with the stories. Some in the beginning some later.“Teddy and Chris and I were up in the club on that Friday morning, glooming to each other about school being so near and playing cards and swapping the same old travelling salesman jokes and Frenchman jokes.(chapter 2)’’. He names 3 kids and then goes on to tell us about other things , not who each kid is and their life in the story. He is gives a little background in Shawshank before he gets into telling about everything else “In all my years at Shawshank, there have been less than ten men whom I believed when they told me they were innocent. Andy Dufresne was one of them, although I only became convinced of his innocence over a period of years. If I had been on the jury that heard his case in Portland Superior Court over six stormy weeks in 1947-48, I would have voted to convict, too.(Page 3)” It's like a tease; he wants you to read more into

Ebert suggests that, “[Andy Dufresne] accepts the good and the bad as all part of some larger pattern than only he can fully see.” (The Shawshank Redemption Movie review, 1994). One could even say that Andy Dufresne works with the system in order to achieve his goals, playing with both the prisoners and guards to achieve his freedom. This is recognizable in the scenes where Dufresne utilizes his skills as a banker to assist the guards with their taxes. Consequently, Dufresne is securing his safety by becoming not only a prisoner, but now an asset.…

One of the first things we talk about at the beginning of a writing course is this: What does it mean to “read like a writer?” One of the skills that helps students learn to write — or learn to write better — is to alter their reading habits so that instead of reading as readers, they begin to read as writers. The difference is in the focus of the reading. I definitely think close reading is a prerequisite for good writing. It's a way to gain knowledge of the field, to expand ideas about style and voice, and puts the writer in the position of the person he hopes will one day be reading what he writes.…

I chose to revise the first and forth essay. I chose these because they are the shortest essays. I know you wanted me to revise my research essay because I did not have parenthetical citations, but during my writing center visit I asked about those and I learned where they should be and how they should look. When I revised my papers I tried to think about the questions someone else who is not familiar with the topics would ask about my papers and I answered them.…

For eighteen years, I have roamed this earth, and for thirteen of those years I have been able to harness my craft in writing. As I look back on those times, I see how much I have improved. I learned that I despised word count essays and loved creative writing assignments. My literacy journey began in kindergarten where they taught us how to write out the alphabet, my name, and simple sentences. I don’t remember everything that about my time in kindergarten, but I do remember how frustrated I was trying to write out my name.…

As an agriculture teacher, I will often assign readings to my students to convey information and increase their understanding of certain concepts. Likely, I will have to deal with students like Cynthia in my classroom. One strategy I would use to help a student like Cynthia would be capitalize on her initial desire to be successful. The text mentioned that Cynthia had certain goals she wanted to reach during the school year such as improving her reading and writing skills. While goals are good for students to have, they also need understand the need to plan for how they are going to attain their goals.…

    1) My overall opinion on how this semester is going learning Latin is positive and I think it is going very well. I have improved my daily study routine by adding the tried and true method of old fashion handwriting vocabulary words into my notebook. The class was introduced to the Memrise online resource in the language lab and that has definitely helped me identify my need to learn to spell Latin correctly. I have no problem picking out the correct meaning and translating individual Latin words if I see it in a list, but writing from memory has always been difficult for me.…
