Gatsby would become rich to win over Daisy. When Gatsby returned, he was so devoted to finding Daisy that he even hosted parties with the hopes of seeing her there. Daisy’s friend, Jordan, mentioned it when she said, “... he half expected her to wander into one of his parties some night, but she never did (Fitzgerald 84). Gatsby even went as far as covering up a murder for Daisy. When Nick asked about the event wondering if it had actually been him or Daisy, Jay said “Yes, but of course I’ll say I was…”(Fitzgerald 151). Like in the novel The Great Gatsby, a green light on Daisy’s dock that Gatsby always gazes upon is a great meaning to him and most of the characters in the book. It symbolizes an unattainable dream or like a hazy future that one must work toward to gain that goal. F. Scott Fitzgerald places the green light there to bring hope not just for him but for others who also read the book that what to reach a goal.…

Certain words hold feelings-- they hold images-- they hold life. Different words contain more power and emotion than imaginable. A word can warm a mood and bring it love and a sense of unpredictable madness to a scene. A word can cool a picture and give it edge with a sense of hope while the lingering memory of the idea flows through the page, becoming immensely important. Both Hemingway and Fitzgerald have compiled their words into enormous feelings, as pressing and powerful as the ocean or as wild and uncontrollable as a fire in both novels, The Old Man and the Sea and The Great Gatsby.…

From his rags to riches success story, to his dedication to become wealthy enough, smart enough, and polite enough for Daisy, it is evident that Jay Gatsby is motivated. As everyone knows, Gatsby throws the most wonderful parties; they are filled with laughter, food, and joy but the real reason for the parties is because of Daisy. When Nick gets daisy to see Gatsby, Nick had a revelation as to what gatsby had been doing all along, “It had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way” (96). In his seminal work “Memories, Dreams, and Reflections” Carl Gustaf Jung presents a stinging defense of Sigmund Freud. As the footnote by Aniela Jaffe explains, “In his obituary on Freud (1939), Jung calls this work ‘epoch-making’ and ‘probably the boldest attempt that has ever been made to master the riddles of the unconscious psyche upon the apparently firm ground of empiricism.
