As a pre-operative and Post Anesthesia Care Unit registered nurse, I have worked with patients at a pivotal time in their lives. Patients experience a variety of emotions and have a multitude of challenges to overcome when they present for surgery. Working in the acute peri-operative setting has allowed me to developed the interpersonal skills to provide compassion for the patients, yet thoroughly, safely and expeditiously assist them through the surgical experience with a high level of care they deserve. My ultimate goal is to work as a APRN in dermatology. Working with a variety of surgeons performing reconstructive surgery has given me an insight to what type of surgeries that can be accomplished with different types of neoplasms.

As a charge nurse, I am constantly faced with sensitive/ difficult issues regarding staff, patients and family members. A specific incident that happened recently involved a patient who came through the ER to have an endoscopic procedure. The established practice for endoscopic cases is for the patient to be recovered in PACU then returned to the ER for discharge.
