Those two readings are Motivation and Faith. I am first going to talk about Motivation. In the textbook, It describes the hierarchy of needs. “Maslow’s pyramid of human need, beginning at the base with physiological needs that must first satisfied before the higher-level safety needs and then psychological needs become active.” As I was volunteering and even right now, my psychological needs, safety needs, belongingness and being loved needs, and esteem needs are all fulfilled. That just leaves the two parts at the top of the pyramid to satisfy, the self-actualization and the self-transcendence needs. I know I can do more with the talents God has given me and while I was volunteering I knew that I was doing more to help people than I would ever do by just sitting on the couch. Therefore, my volunteering and using my time for people that need it more than I do, I satisfied the need to live up to my fullest potential and the need to go beyond myself (Myers, 2014 p.

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

The Salvation Army is a Christian denominational church and an international charitable organization structured in a quasi-military fashion. The organization reports a worldwide membership of over 1.5 million,(Salvation army, 2014) consisting of soldiers, officers and adherents known as Salvationists. Its founders Catherine and William Booth sought to bring salvation to the poor, destitute and hungry by meeting both their "physical and spiritual needs". It is present in 127 countries, (The Salvation Army, 2015) running charity shops, operating shelters for the homeless, and providing personal hygiene product (Taiz, 2001) and disaster relief and humanitarian aid to developing countries (Gariepy, Henry,2009). What I reflect on about Salvation Army stores (Thrift Shops) is that these stores (worldwide) are fully operated by The Salvation Army, the proceeds go directly into the charitable work.…

I believe, that as a caregiver, you have the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life by how you guide them. Guiding children can happen in many ways; in how we direct the child throughout the day, encourage them, aid in decision-making, and in how we model healthy and safe choices. In these the caregiver must be consistent and act as is appropriate given the child's development. The way I have learned to guide children has mainly been through experience, trial and error, and by observing my parents as well as other parents and caregivers.…

Volunteering is an essential part of this world. Every day, millions of people around the world struggle with many problems such as: poverty, hunger, homelessness, etc. Without people volunteering to help solve these issues, what would the world be like? Although there are many existing organizations that help with these issues, such as Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels, one that I have found an interest in is Habitat for Humanity. They are a non-profit volunteer association that works together to build reasonably priced homes for people all over the world.…

The Army behind The Army Although I have never been in the position of needing others’ help, I have seen fellow classmates be there. The Salvation Army started off as a small evangelistic group trying to get relief to others in multiple areas, but it has now become a household name. Some people rely on this special group to get by, while others rely on them during certain times of the year like Christmas and Thanksgiving. People throughout our local area are to account for the help to be able to make this organization do what it needs to for the community. From feeding the homeless and clothing men, women, and children, to helping find shelters and jobs, the Salvation Army has proven to be a national relief center for communities around the world.…

Doing things like baking for my elderly neighbors, or helping them out with any odd jobs they need done may help brighten their day, and, in turn, it makes my day better, knowing that I have helped someone. I am part of the Church of God Women’s Ministries at my local church, and we help those in our community whom are in need of items such as clothing and food. I hope to continue and increase my participation in this group as I grow up. This past year, I was part of the Angels Among Us group at my school, along with others in my grade, in which we would help to provide children in need with clothing items. Volunteering and participating in groups that assist others in need is something that I wish to continue, and I believe that it helps me to become a better person.…
