How The Controversy In Roberto Benigni's Life Is Beautiful

Decent Essays
Life is Beautiful is an Italian film written by Roberto Benigni and Vincenzo Cerami that shows the relationship between father and son, throughout the tragedies of World War II. This film is nothing less than a cinematic masterpiece. Besides winning three academy awards in 1999 for best actor, best music and best foreign language film, the story is one that touches and resonates with everyone. The content of this film is dark and serious, as most of it is set in a concentration camp, however it never truly feels sad. The stylistic choice to use comedy as a relief, although controversial, was executed perfectly. The humour never took away from the severity and importance of their situation, only put a friendly face to the millions of people

I thought the movie was well written and did a great job of showing what these children experienced during this tragic time, not just during the war but their journey that followed the war. The movie begins with a scene depicting an ordinary day in the life of the children in the Sudan village.…

The film Julieta, and the way in which it was exhibited encapsulate the key qualities of art cinema. Julieta attests to art cinema’s ability to travel after successfully journeying through multiple film festivals and still maintaining an ease to be comprehended and understood by international audiences. The film’s recognizable aesthetics urged The Film Society of Lincoln Center to program Julieta during the New York Film Festival’s Main Slate category based on the knowledge that Almodovar’s auteurism is widely celebrated and has a large cult following. Almodovar’s following consequently puts more people in the audience to watch his film, increasing ticket revenue for the festival. Finally, the exhibition of Julieta at the New York Film Festival places the film in the art cinema category, and therefore a position of sophistication in comparison to the movies released by the commercial film industry…

For this writing workshop, I will use three critical approaches to discuss the film, The Bicycle Thieves (De Sica, 1948). Of the six approaches, I chose the “National Cinemas”, “Auteur”, and “Ideology” approaches. The “National Cinemas” approach to analyzing film takes into account the culture and national characteristics that influence how a narrative is filmed. To understand and fully appreciate a film, one must understand the historical and cultural conditions that surround it. The writer must distinguish what makes a particular film different from those of another culture from the same time period (Corrigan, 2015).…

In the universe of Minnelli’s films, almost everyone has dream. Dream itself is a self-dominant world, in where the dreamer could create, change,or destroy for his own will. Reality is the container to hold so many self-dominant worlds. Speaking of the relationship between dream and reality, Jean Douchet makes an ambiguous argument about a recurring thematic in Minnelli: “Reality is the dream of other, but it is also one’s own dream.” It means that each dreamer has own projection of the reality, which is all based on the level of self-dominant world (dream), and thus everyone thinks he could still able to destroy the reality and rebuild it for his own will.…

The main camera angle is a mid shot and low angle they are frequently used because they highlight pele’s life of poverty and the fact that he never gives up, his sheer persistence is the key to his success. An example of the low angle camera technique is when pele does his bicycle kick this make him look important and talented.and the mid shot shows extreme focus it also tells that something important is going to happen an example of his focus is when everyone is laughing at him and he focuses on the game instead of paying attention to the people laughing. The director often uses close up it is also an effective way to show…
