Karl Marx was many things, including economist, philosopher, and revolutionary socialist who explored many different ideas. He was born in Germany, but had to move away from the country, as the government did not like his ideas. After moving around a lot, he finally settled in London, where he met and became good friends with a man named Friedrich Engels, who shared the same ideas as him.
Living during the industrial boom, Marx had the idea that if factories and businesses were run by the rich and powerful paying workers a very minimal amount, then there would inevitably be class struggle. He thought that what would come of this class struggle would be the working class overthrowing the system and taking charge.
Working with Engels, together they wrote The Communist Manifesto, their most famous piece, in 1848. It is about the original idea of communism and why it is needed, how it works, and when it should be established. …show more content…

Marx also wrote the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, a critique of the economy, including his ideas of how to change the economy, like turning to communism.
