Nobody is really sure how baseball got started many say it has roots to the English game called Rounders. The one big difference between baseball and rounder is that in rounders to get a player out you have to hit them with the ball, compared to baseball where you have to tag them with the ball. Doctors thought it was a great way for the soldiers to stay in a good physical shape while also having fun. They also played the game of baseball to take their mind off of the war and really just forget about their lives and escape reality for a little bit and focus on the game. It was also a good team building exercise they would all learn to play together and get along on the baseball field then it would translate into them all getting along and working together on the battlefield. So they could all come together and have each others backs and ultimately win the war. Soldiers would even write letters home about it.
In 1845 a New Yorker named Alexander Cartwright published the “original 20 rules of baseball’ for publishing this book he was later nicknamed the Father of Baseball. But in 1877 that all changed he gave up pitching to become a full time promoter for the game of baseball. He would go on to open up a sporting goods store where he would make and sell bats, gloves, hat, and uniforms anything you could possible need to play the game he had.
