Following the Civil War and the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln was Andrew Johnson’s form of Reconstruction. During Johnson’s Reconstruction, the 13th Amendment was ratified, which abolished slavery within the United States of America. The ratification of the 13th Amendment lead to the 14th and 15th Amendments promising national citizenships and equality for all and to punish states that denied the vote to black men. This Disagreement was caused by the United States gaining several new states and territories from the Mexican American war and the South fearing that the North would vote to ban slavery for good. The Civil War was also caused by fights that broke out in the new states and territories between the North and the South. For France and Britain, there were similarities in trade relations since Europe was very intertwined with the United States and some of their resources like cotton were heavily dependent on trade with the South. This necessity during the Civil War is still noticeable throughout the first World War as well, but with different resources being more dominant such as manpower since instead of needing cotton, France and Britain both needed soldiers since they were fighting in a…

Initially, no one really was in favor of the idea but as the war wore on and more soldiers died, people became more interested in the idea. Abraham Lincoln eventually supported it, understanding that they were willing to fight and taking advantage of that fact. Despite how unpopular the idea was in general, he went ahead and allowed the creation of all-black regiments because he knew that whites were, at this point, uninterested in fighting to free the slaves while the African Americans were ready to go fight and possibly even die for the sake of their brethren and the preservation of the Union (Doc. C). Once it became a major war aim of the Union to end slavery, African Americans in the north were subject to random acts of violence, especially once a draft began for the Union army. Draft riots began, the most violent occurring in New York City.…

I predict that it would be very difficult to bring the South back to the Union and to reconstruct the South because it was destroyed. The North and South had different opinions and laws about slavery.…
