Texting is blazing like a hot raving fire that cannot be extinguished. The awakening of texting is and will continue to modernize the lives of teenagers throughout the world. My research paper will focus on how texting have affected teens socially, mentally, physical and their health. Cell phones are becoming a modern day necessity to the point that all teens must have one for texting. Everywhere you go, you see teen’s heads down texting away in malls, schools, cars, streets, and even crosswalks. We may be one of those people with our fingers glued to our phones keyboard or touch screen. Does this really affect our day to day activities?

Today, we live in the second machine age where communication is first and impersonal texting eliminates the needs for face to face conservations. According to Bennie Ellis, PHD director of Academic for the University of Phoenix says that texting has reached such an extreme that instead of having verbal discussion, teens are texting back and forth while sitting right next to each other. In fact Baylor College of Medicine website explained that a teen that is shy on more introverted than his or her peers, texting will serve as a more comforted way to express feelings without having to talk with another person face- to- face one- on one. Teenagers update their status, share what their watching, listening to and reading, and have apps that let their friends know their specified locations on a map at all times. Even if a person isn’t trying to keep his friends updates, he is still never out of reach of a text message. They also have mood swings low self- esteem. Teenagers struggle with low self -esteem especially during puberty a through high school. We know that harassing text message cam contribute to low self esteem in teenagers because they are rejected by their peers. Many teens are bullying each other through texting. Bullying includes actions such as threats, spreading rumors, or attacking someone verbally by texting.
