For instance I have never seen myself as an athlete until my junior year of high school. I wanted to play a sport but at the time I did not have any experience in any sport. I thought to myself “ tennis does not seem so hard’’ little did I know what I was getting myself into. I went to the first practice and it was brutal I could not get any ball over the net or hit the ball right. I did not know that to play tennis there is a certain technique in hitting the ball and approaching a shot. The next day I told the coach that “tennis is not for me it is to hard”. National Honor Society Application Essay For any human to exhibit qualities throughout their lifestyle, one must transcend in certain aspects of their nature. Everyone is born with a different character or personality and not everyone exceeds in all of the same categories, however; I would place myself among the four characteristics of scholarship, leadership, service, and outstanding character as some of the qualities where I excel. I have always been a very studious person, and I take pride in my achievements in the classroom. I was also raised to believe that my best is an A, so when I got my first B it was not something taken lightly. I try to remember that if you put your mind to something, then you can accomplish it, which reminds me of the quote by Mike Farrell, “If you try to do your best there is no failure.”…

Tires crunched on the loose gravel parking lot as I was dropped off at my high school’s tennis courts on the first day of school. With my high school requiring a year of physical education, I opted to take the lifetime sport for I was nervous to compete for a spot on the highly competitive teams my school was known for. I was met at the court by 30 other freshmen with a mixed variety of expertise spanning from the first time to ever hold a racquet to a district ranked player. The district ranked player’s father, Mr. Weaver, was a sophomore chemistry teacher who happened to play tennis professionally in his heyday. Mr. Weaver volunteered to teach the freshman tennis team and to train them the basics before they were transferred to “the real…

Being apart of the tennis team has taught me many things involving unity. From the first moment of being on the sport, I have met some exceptionally welcoming people who have become some of my best friends. They have greatly influenced me by showing incredible skills on how to cooperate, communicate, and lead. I’ve learned that leadership should not be about one person dictating, it is a group effort, where peers should listen to all ideas in hopes of devising a team proposal. I absolutely love tennis and I am so thankful for my teammates, my coaches, and the opportunity to play the game.…
