The use of video and audio transmission to permit a physician to assess and provide care and consultation where the patient would not be seen by a specialist in the past (American Telemedicine Association, 2012). The hope is to enhance stroke care to prevention and eventual eradication where no patient suffers the crippling deficits from a stroke. The nursing informatics specialist will drive this movement through technology support and justification through documentation of improvements of care and outcomes for neurologic patients. The role of nursing and informatics in the advancement of stroke care is endless. The additional technology, data, and logistics must be managed and adapted to the health care field provide as well as a neurologist who must be able to efficiently operate and order the treatments needed to save the brain. The nurse’s role further extends to tracking the data produced in these trials and adapting the treatment and usage to maximize its results and preventing it from being a transitional fad (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015).
