People have gone from being independent, to depending on technology for pretty much everything they do. For example, teens nowadays can’t do anything without depending on their phones. According to Linda Matchan, who wrote an article for the Boston Globe, one of her greatest frustration is with students and their cell phones. The texting, tweeting, and Snapchatting during class time are “an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,” she said. “It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.” (Matchan 2.) This is telling us how cellphones are a huge distraction for kids education. Teachers are becoming more and more frustrated with kids and how disrespectful they are because of the distractions cell phones cause. Schools are thinking about implementing no phone rules. There was a study done throughout the UK where schools found that test scores were 6.41 higher at schools where phones were prohibited. The researchers concluded that cellphones “can have a negative impact on productivity through distraction, particularly among low-achieving students.” (Matchan 3.) This means that low-achieving are more likely to become distracted with the use of cellphones, while high-achieving students can still focus regardless of phone
