Some say it is much better for students to have access to the internet because of the wide area of information, but it is just making Americans more dumb. Not everything on the internet is believable. Students are no longer learning knowledge through reading and interpreting information, they are just Googling everything. Students are also becoming more technologically advanced than many teachers, which gives the teachers a disadvantage in the classroom (Chen, 2015). In United States schools, one out of every four students in schools are bullied on a regular basis. Sixth through tenth graders are at most risk of being bullied. Bullying occurs not only at school, but also outside of school and at home. Because of technological advances in the past decade, bullying has taken a notch up because there are more ways for bullies to access their victims. Cyberbullying is tough to handle because there aren’t many laws in effect that protect those who are bullied online (Chen, 2015). 77% of students have reported being bullied at least once. This staggering amount is outrageous compared to other countries. Many of those who are bullied reported that nobody is helping them. Why is bullying such a problem? Bullying causes declining grades, increased anxiety, and less desire to be around others and live a social life. In a recent study, students said that school bullying was driving kids to shoot other kids. 75% of the school shootings that have occurred in America were a result of bullying. Why is nobody stopping this? The study also showed that about one out of every twenty students carries a gun at school, and 23% of freshmen take a gun to school with them (“Bullying”, 2014). Standardized test scores range greatly between the country, states, and even from students in the same high school. The cause of the issues in American schools is because of lack of funding, teacher cuts, and high drop-out rates (“What’s wrong”, n.d.). Along with teacher cuts, there is a lack of passionate teachers willing to teach in public schools nowadays. The pay for teachers is so low that many will not consider teaching as a career path anymore. This is an issue for students because they can not proficiently learn without teachers who have a great passion and knowledge for the material they are teaching. The advanced learning and critical thinking many students used to participate in has died because of the teachers having no extra push for teaching their students. Many classroom sizes are exceeding 30 students, which makes it impossible for a teacher to teach students at a personal level. A study shown says that classroom sizes should only contain about 15-17 students. There are too many kids to teach one-on-one when they exceed these numbers. Another reason that school systems are failing is because of how high poverty rates are in America. 22% of children in the U.S. live at or below the poverty level, which is an annual income of $23,050 or lower. Problems going on at home impact how well students are able to learn in the classroom. Those
